Highlander cat

The Highlander cat is not a very popular breed yet, but in time this cat will be very popular all over the world. The Highlander cat has so many similar characteristics like a dog in many ways, this cat will get to be around forty pounds for the male cat and eighteen to twenty five for the females. These cats can fetch, beg, roll over, and even love to be walked on a leash like a dog. The only difference between the Highlander cat and a dog is, the cat is litter box trained where the dog goes outside to do it's business. the Highlander cat has been around for a while, but very hard to find a breeder, you really don't see these cats around anywhere. To find a good breeder for this type of cat, I suggest you do some research on line to make sure this is what you want before you buy one.

There is so many different colors to a Highlander cat, you have the original tabby colors which is brown with a little bit of a Orange color, pure black, white with stripes, blue colored which the cat is a bluish Grey coloring, but you can see the tint of blue in it, bronzed color and also a red color almost like a jar of Cinnamon. It's so amazing how you end up with the certain colors, but they are very striking to say the least. So you do have many color to choose from, it's really what you prefer.

Burmilla Cat

The history of the Burmilla as a breed and the formation of the Burmilla Cat Club is quite an extraordinary one. Burmillas originated from a chance mating between a Burmese and a Chinchilla in 1981. The article by Thérèse Clarke entitled "Green Eyes and Silver Sparkle - The Enchanting Story of the Burmilla" outlines in detail the story of that accidental mating between Jemari Sanquist and Bambino Lilac Fabergé.

In 1983 the Burmilla was recognised as an independent breed with the CA Association after the Association was presented with a Breeding Program and Breed Standard.

The Burmilla Cat Club (BCC) was founded on 21 January 1984 with the aim of getting together breeders willing to start independent lines as well as half lines ensuing from Kartush parentage, to promote the breed by exhibiting regularly at CA shows and to contribute to a club magazine: THE BCC MEWS.

Since then the BCC, granted affiliation to the CA in July 1986, has held Spring Exemption Shows and All Breeds Championship Shows in October each year - these became International following CA's election as the British Member of the Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) in May 1990.

Following the winding-up of the CA in November 2004, the BCC became Associated with the newly formed Independent club Everycat UK in December 2003 and continues to hold International championship shows annually.

Cheetoh cat

What kind of cat is a Cheetoh?

The Cheetoh comes from the crossing of specific registered cats from the Ocicat's and specific registered cats from Bengal breeds. The Cheetoh has true jungle linage from the Asian Leopard cat and is a very muscular cat that is athletic, graceful and lithe. The Cheetoh has a stalking, low-shouldered walk that is common both in the Ocicat and the wild jungle cats, but is not typically exhibited in other domestic cats. The spotted and/or rosette spotted appearance with the large eyes and ears, enhances this distinctive wild look. The coat of the Cheetoh, sleek and shiny, is another of its distinguishing attributes. The fur is very short and thick, yet soft and velvety and is quite similar in nature to the fur of the jungle cats.

How are Cheetoh’s different from other cats?

The Cheetoh incorporates the distinctive spotted coat characteristics from the breed of both the Ocicat and the Bengal breeds. The goal of the Cheetoh breeding program was to create a very intelligent cat that is larger with an extraordinary wild look without adding more wild blood.......but most importantly, an extremely social, docile and gentle natured lap cat that is safe for all family members.

Exotic cat

Exotic shorthair is a breed of cat developed to be a short-haired version of the Persian. They usually appeal to people who like the personality of a Persian, but don’t want to deal with the grooming and care required of a long-hair cat. The ease of maintaining the shorthair cat’s coat is typically the major selling point for consumers. Exotic Shorthair cats are similar to the Persian cat in a few ways, including: temperament and conformation (except for the short dense coat); additionally the Shorthair breed has inherited similar health problems associated with the Persian.

The exotic shorthair has a compact (rounded) body type and a short thick neck. It also has large round eyes, a short snubby nose, and small ears. The shorthair’s body is medium in size with it’s body frame being close to the ground; their average weight of is approximately 5-6 kilograms. The coat of the shorthair is slightly longer than other breeds of short-haired cats. It’s fur is fluffy and dense, and the Persian color of the fur is distinct in this breed.

The exotic shorthair breed typically has a gentle and calming personality type (similar to the Persian), but is usually livelier and more playful; also, the Exotic Shorthair is typically friendly to other breeds of cats and dogs. The breed of cat is extremely affectionate and loyal to its owner, and doesn’t like being left alone; for these reasons the Exotic Shorthair makes a great house cat due to the need for affection and loyalty.

As far as grooming, the breed is fairly easy to tame and take care of. The cat itself is able to keep its fur clean with little assistance from the owner. An owner should comb or brush the fur weekly to remove loose fur and reduce shedding. Other than this, little, if any maintenance and care is required by owners.

As far as health risks, the Exotic Shorthair (like the Persian) has a high risk of contracting PKD, a disease which causes kidney failure. As a preventive measure, owners should have an annual DNA screening performed to reduce the chance of this disease.

In general, the Shorthair is a desireable breed due to its exotic features. The breed is friendly, easy to care for, and a great house pet. For owners looking for a companion pet, requiring little care and maintenance, the Shorthair would be a great choice.

Sylvester we love you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RARE CATS

Some adorable newborn kittens at Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species have no idea just how special they are. Two African Black-Footed kittens, members of an endangered species rarely seen in captivity, are the first of their kind to be born from a frozen embryo via in-vitro fertilization. This ground-breaking birth is the latest advance in assisted reproduction for endangered species from Audubon Nature Institute in New Orleans.

The youngsters, both males, were born to surrogate mother Bijou on February 13, 2011, but their story goes all the way back to 2003, when sperm was collected from a 6 year old male named Ramses in Omaha, Nebraska. Experts at the Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo Center for Conservation and Research – Reproductive Sciences Department froze the sperm and sent it to Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species. It was combined with an egg from Zora, a Black-Footed Cat living at Audubon research center, creating embryos in March, 2005. Those embryos were frozen for almost six years before being thawed and transferred to Bijou on December 7, 2010. Sixty-nine days later, the two kittens became the first of their species to be born as a result of in-vitro fertilization utilizing frozen/thawed sperm and a frozen/thawed embryo.

“The science of assisted reproduction for endangered species has come a long way in the past fifteen years, but every time we can point to another ‘first’ in the field it gives us hope,” said Audubon Nature Institute President and CEO Ron Forman. “We are proving this science works and that we can provide hi-tech options for many different species as the situation grows more and more critical for wildlife across the globe.”

As species like the black-footed cat decrease in numbers, it becomes more important to work out the science for keeping their genetics viable, according to Audubon Nature Institute Senior Vice President for Research Dr. Betsy Dresser, Director of Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species. “We don’t know what the future holds for many of these species,” said Dr. Dresser. “But we do know that by preserving DNA and working on protocol for creating pregnancies and producing babies through cryo-preservation and surrogate mothers, we are giving these species a shot at survival even when their numbers dip to dangerously low levels."

The Audubon research program has pioneered a number of firsts in the field, including the birth of African wildcat Jazz, the first wild carnivore born via inter-species embryo transfer and in-vitro fertilization in 1999, and the world’s first cloned sand cat kittens and caracal kitten. While the program focuses heavily on small endangered cats, Audubon research center also pioneered a successful assisted reproduction program for endangered Mississippi sandhill cranes which serves as the prototype for a new program for endangered whooping cranes.

The very special black-footed cats might look similar to domestic kittens found anywhere across the globe, but their numbers, according to the Feline Conservation Federation, are very low. There are only 19 such cats in zoo collections in the United States, and only 40 around the world. Native to South Africa, the black-footed cat is one of the smallest wild felines. While hunting them is prohibited, farmers in their range will sometimes poison or trap them.

There is always more research to be done. “The next step for us will be to clone the black-footed cat and transfer the embryo to a domestic cat surrogate,” said Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species Senior Scientist Dr. C. Earle Pope, who is the lead scientist on the project.
Meanwhile, the two black-footed kittens are being cared for by their surrogate mother and staff at Audubon research center, blissfully unaware of their enormous contribution to the science of saving species.

Oriental

The personality of the Oriental is as distinctive as the multicolored exterior. They are natural entertainers, full of enthusiasm, energy, and the belief that the world should revolve around them. Haughty and royal one minute, they are animated and inquisitive the next. They are highly curious, and will go to great lengths to be involved in your activities.

Orientals' feelings are easily hurt if you ignore them but, given their full share of affection, Oriental Shorthairs will repay you with a lifetime of love, affection, and intelligent conversation. They usually bond with one person and become extremely devoted and dependent upon their chosen human. Expect them to be at your side, in your lap, and at the door to interrogate you about where you've been.

The breed?'s vocal tone is generally softer and milder than that of the Siamese, but the range, frequency, and inflection vary from cat to cat. Like their Siamese relatives, they are never at a loss for words on any subject.

Birman CAT

There is no clear record of the origin of Birmans, but one unsourced but oft repeated legend is that the Birman cat originated in Burma where they were kept by temple priests in Northern Burma in the Mount of Lugh. This is repeated as ...Auguste Pavie and Major Gordon Russell, a British officer (reportedly
, received a pair of temple cats from the Temple of Lao-Tsun (The Abode of the Gods ), situated East of Lake Incaougji (Indawgyi Lake), between Magaoung (Mogaung) and Sembo (Shwebo). This legend is attributed to the writings of Mme Marcelle Adam (novelist and president of the Federation Feline Française and owner of Maldapour Birman Cattery) and first published by Dr. François Méry in the French Review Minerva.[citation needed] There are many colorful stories of how the cats first came to France, including pairs of cats being a reward for helping defend a temple, or being smuggled out of Burma by a Vanderbilt. There is also a story that a couple of stolen birmans (or a pregnant female called Poupée de Maldapour) were imported to France by by Thadde Haddisch.

The first traces of historical Birmans go back to a Mme Leotardi in the city of Nice in France.

Birmans were almost wiped out as a breed during World War II. Only two cats were alive in Europe at the end of the war, a pair named Orloff and Xenia de Kaabaa, both belonging to Baudoin-Crevoisier. The foundation of the breed in postwar France were offspring of this pair. They had to be heavily outcrossed with long-hair breeds such as Persian and Siamese to rebuild the Birman breed. By the early 1950s, pure Birman litters were once again being produced. The restored breed was recognized in Britain in 1965 and by the CFA in 1966.[citation needed]

The first Birman cats were seal-point. The Blue-point color was introduced in 1959 using Blue Persian lines. New colors were added by the work of English Breeders in the 1970-1980 including chocolate, red-point, and the tabby/lynx version.[citation needed] A Birman was also used to create new breeds like the Ragdoll cat in California

Sphynx cat

The contemporary breed of Sphynx (known also as the Canadian Sphynx, distinct from the Russian Sphynx breeds - Peterbald, Don Sphynx) started in 1966, in Roncesvalles, Toronto when a hairless kitten named Prune was born. The kitten was mated with its mother (backcrossing), which produced one more naked kitten. Together with a few naked kittens found later it founded the first attempt to create a hairless breed. The first sphynx breeders faced a number of problems: The genetic pool was very limited; breeders had rather vague ideas about sphynx genetics, and many kittens died. There was also a problem with many of the females suffering convulsions. The last 2 descendents of Prune, a brother-sister pair, were sent to Holland in the 1970s, but the male was uninterested in mating and the female conceived only once, but lost the litter.

In 1978 and 1980, two further hairless female kittens were found in Toronto and were sent to Holland to be bred with Prune's last surviving male descendent. One female conceived, but she also lost the litter. By then, the one remaining male had been neutered, never having been interested in mating with any of the females. As a result, no modern Sphynx cats are traceable to Prune. With no male Sphynxes, breeders instead used sparsely-furred Devon Rex studs. Two hairless female kittens born in 1975 and 1976, Epidermis and Dermis, to barn cats in Minnesota became an important part of the Sphynx breeding programme and further hairless cats were found in Texas, Arkansas and Minnesota. Modern Sphynx therefore trace their origins to the second Canadian bloodline and to the Minnesota cats.

In the early stages of the breed crosses with devon-rex were used, but later this crossing was frowned upon because it caused health problems. Now the Canadian Sphynx is a breed with a sound genetic pool. Outcrossing is still permitted using guidelines set down in the "standards" from each Feline Association around the globe.

Abyssinian cat

It is not just a cat that you are talking about with every step that it takes; while it goes up and the time it takes to come back to the ground, the sheer ooze that exhibits from the very aura of this creature is hard to depict in words and the ticking fur of this mystic creature makes it something to behold; as it gives it an exotic look that catches hearts and blow you out of yourself and you for a split second can’t figure out whether the world of reality has evaporated somewhere or you are literally in a fiction. The impression that Abyssinian aka Aby convey in sheer oblivion while in its standing state that the lithe and grace with long slim legs overwhelms one with a magical spell that it seems that it’s on tiptoes.

Though the name reminds of Ethiopia because of Abyssinia but the genetics of this cat breed shows that its origin lies back in coast of Indian Ocean. But to the contrary of these all most of the famous things said about this cat relates it to the Egypt because of the bronzes, paintings and the agouti coated cats found buried in the tombs of the Pyramids of Abyssinian3Egypt. It is the most popular breed of cat with shorthair with slender legs fairly long tail, broad at the base and tapering to a point which you would often see it trying to catch while turning round and round with face towards the tail. It has almond shaped eyes that come in different colors gold, green, hazel or copper. The most astonishing factor regarding its physique is the “M” that is formed on its forehead it is called the frown lines and they are affectionately called Mascara Lines as well. Another factor which distinguishes it makes it the favorite is the Tickling fur that is layered by color; as we take different strands from different places it reveals that they all have different colors. The colors in the Abyssinian breed have been developed from its original form; they are Sorrel (yellowish, brown), Blue Abyssinians (beige base with blue ticking), Fawn Abyssinians light (light-cream base color with darker cream ticking) and Ruddy.

Ragdoll

The Ragdoll is a cat breed with blue eyes and a distinct colorpoint coat. It is a large and muscular semi-longhair cat with a soft and silky coat. Developed by American breeder Ann Baker, it is best known for its docile and placid temperament and affectionate nature. The name "Ragdoll" is derived from the tendency of individuals from the original breeding stock to go limp and relaxed when picked up.

Ragdoll

Μεγαλόσωμη, με χαλαρή και ήρεμη προσωπικότητα, η Ragdoll έχει μακρύ, εντυπωσιακό τρίχωμα και εκθαμβωτικά, γαλάζια μάτια.

Maine Coon

The Maine Coon is a breed of domestic cat with a distinctive physical appearance and valuable hunting skills. It is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America, specifically native to the state of Maine, where it is the official State Cat.

Although the Maine Coon's exact origins and date of introduction to the United States are unknown, many theories have been proposed. The breed was popular in cat shows in the late 19th century, but its existence became threatened when long-haired breeds from overseas were introduced in the early 20th century. The Maine Coon has since made a comeback and is now one of the most popular cat breeds in the world.

The Maine Coon is noted for its large bone structure, rectangular body shape, and long, flowing coat. The breed can be seen in a variety of colors and is known for its intelligence and gentle personality. Health problems, such as feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and hip dysplasia, are seen in the breed, but screening methods can help to reduce the frequency of these problems.
